The Seven Churches
After an opening vision of Christ, chapters 2 and 3 address seven churches in Asia Minor individually, commending some for endurance and criticizing others for compromise or complacency, each message tailored to a known local situation.
Visions of Conflict
The central chapters present overlapping series of catastrophes and cosmic conflict, including a dragon, two beasts, and the number 666, widely understood as coded references to Rome and its emperors and their demand for worship.
A New Creation
The book ends with the defeat of evil, a final judgment, and a vision of a new heaven and new earth and a new Jerusalem where suffering and death are gone - an image of hope offered to communities under strain.
