Paul, or a writer in his name, tells the Thessalonians not to be alarmed by letter as though from us claiming the day of the Lord had come. He says a period of rebellion and a figure of lawlessness must appear first.
The final section addresses members who, perhaps expecting an imminent end, had quit their jobs and were living off others. The letter states bluntly that anyone unwilling to work should not eat.
